All five of our companies, ABA Seguros, Grupo Nacional Provincial (GNP), HDI Seguros, Quálitas, and ACE Seguros, offer an optional package that improves the basic policy. These are the most comprehensive tourist auto policies available for Mexico.

When added to your “basic” Tourist auto policy as indicated in the space on the face page of your policy, and upon payment of the corresponding premium, this endorsement modifies and improves coverage for damage and repair to the Insured Vehicle, Third Party Liability, Medical Expense coverage, and injuries to occupants of your vehicle caused by an at-fault Uninsured Driver (ACE), and waiver of deductible if damage to your vehicle is caused by an uninsured at-fault driver (GNP). Following is a description of the upgrade, by company.

Specially Broadening Endorsement (optional)

  1. Increased Cost of Repair – If damages to the Insured Vehicle are repaired in the United States or Canada, the cost of repairs will be paid at an hourly labor rate varying from USD $50 to $75 per hour, depending upon the type of vehicle and insurance company.

Without this upgrade, reimbursement for repairs made in the U.S. or Canada will be settled based upon the cost for labor as if the repairs were made in Mexico, i.e., at Mexican labor rates, which are much less than in Canada or the U.S. The exception to this is HDI Seguros, which pays U.S. or Canada labor rates on their Standard policy.

  2. Partial Theft – Exclusion for partial theft is eliminated. Total Theft coverage is broadened to include payment for theft of parts and accessories that are permanently attached to the Insured Vehicle, excluding sound reproduction and recording equipment such as but not limited to AM/FM radios, Cassette and CD players/recorders, and CB, UHF, and VHF radios. The deductible for Partial Theft is the same as the deductible amount for Total Theft as shown on the face page of your policy.

  3. Minimum Deductibles for Vehicle Types Other Than Private Passenger Autos (e.g. Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Motor Homes, Motorcycles, Trailers) – The Minimum Deductibles shown on the face page of your policy are reduced from $1,000 for Collision to $500, and from $1,500 to $1,000 for Theft. The deductible as a percentage of the vehicle value shown on the face page of your policy remains as shown.

  4. Vandalism – Vandalism, meaning willful and malicious damage to or destruction of the Insured Vehicle, is covered by this broadening endorsement. The deductible for Vandalism is the same as the deductible amount for Total Theft as shown on the face page of your policy.

  5. Civil Liability for Bodily Injury to Third Parties and Damage to Property of Others

ABA Seguros - the limit of Liability is increased to $170,000 for all damages resulting from a covered accident.

GNP and HDI Seguros - the limit of liability is increased to $150,000 for all damages resulting from an accident.

Quálitas – The limit of Liability is $200,000, which, as of this writing (Apr. 2010) we understand may change.

ACE Seguros - the Property Damage Liability limit of liability is increased to U.S. $100,000 and Bodily Injury Liability limit of liability is increased to U.S. $100,000 per person and U.S. $300,000 per accident. These limits will be shown on the face page of your policy.

  6. Medical Expenses for Occupants of the Insured Vehicle – The limit of liability for Medical Expenses on ABA Seguros policies is increased to $15,000 per person / $75,000 per accident, to $25,000 per accident on GNP policies, and to $5,000 per person / $25,000 per accident on HDI Seguros and ACE policies.

  7. Uninsured Motorist – ACE Seguros: In the event that you are not at fault in an accident that results in injuries to the occupants of your vehicle and the driver of the at-fault vehicle is uninsured (e.g. does not have Automobile Civil Liability Insurance in Mexico), the limit for Medical Expenses for injuries to occupants of your vehicle is increased to $15,000 per person and $40,000 per accident.

ABA Seguros, HDI, Quálitas, and GNP waive the Collision deductible if the other party is at fault and does not have insurance.
