Claim handling is similar to that in the U.S. and Canada.
Included with your homeowners insurance policy documents are instructions what to do in case of a loss.
The insurance company, ACE Seguros – Mexico, provides a toll free telephone number to call and report the claim to a bi-lingual claim representative.
The telephone claim representative will take down pertinent information and then dispatch an adjuster to your location in Mexico.
The claim adjustor will investigate and document the damage or loss and complete a report. You will be asked to read and sign the report and you will be given a copy. You claim number will appear on the Claim Report.
Depending on the type of loss you may be asked to provide evidence of ownership and to substantiate the value of property you claim to be damaged, destroyed, or stolen.
You will be asked to obtain estimates of the cost to repair damage to structures.
If a building or structure is damaged, and the basis of settlement is Replacement Cost, the insurance company will prepare an evaluation of the replacement cost of the building or structure at the time of loss. This is done to determine if the building was insured to at least 80% of its value at the time of loss.
The insurance company is obligated by Mexican law and the insurance policy conditions to make payment within 60 days of having received the documentation necessary to evaluate the amount of loss.
